Lumo Plus in Bitcoin: Proton’s price and how on-chain payment works
Lumo Plus costs $12.99 monthly or $119.88 yearly. Proton takes on-chain BTC for it from account settings, plus gift cards, cash and PayPal. Steps and limits.
Proton Lumo takes crypto at its own checkout. No reason for us to resell it or charge a fee. Sign in to your own account there and pay them.
Open lumo.proton.me ↗Lumo is Proton’s private AI assistant, and Lumo Plus is billed like every other Proton plan. That means Bitcoin works: Proton accepts on-chain BTC for all its subscriptions. Two catches. You can’t pay in BTC while creating the account, only afterwards from settings, and Bitcoin payments never renew automatically. Proton also takes cash by post, bank transfer and its own gift cards. Nothing here goes through us, and we earn nothing on it.
Prices below come from Proton’s checkout data with no promotion running, re-checked on October 12, 2026. The big product change this year was Lumo 2.0 on June 30, 2026: image generation, Memory, Projects and custom Lumos. The Lumo Plus price stayed put.

Proton’s checkout gives the same numbers whether you pick dollars, euros or Swiss francs. Sterling and other local currencies can show up when paying by card, PayPal or a phone wallet; we couldn’t pull a pound price from Proton’s plan data.
Plus raises your allowance on the Max model, messages, chat history and image generation, and removes the caps on Projects and custom Lumos. Proton Workspace Premium and Proton Lifetime include it too. Switching plans is prorated. There’s no Lumo Plus offer on Proton’s student page.
Paying for Lumo Plus in BTC
- Sign up for a free Proton account first. Skip the paid plans at this stage.
- In the web app, go to Settings, then All settings.
- Press "Compare all plans", pick Lumo Plus, a currency and a billing length, and select it.
- Under Payment details choose Bitcoin. You get an address, its QR code and the amount in BTC to send.
- Send it. The upgrade applies at once, and Proton may take up to 24 hours to finish verifying the payment.
We didn’t push a live Lumo Plus purchase through ourselves. Proton’s Bitcoin instructions cover every subscription, and Lumo Plus is in the same plan list as Mail or VPN.
Points that trip people up:
- Base layer only. The payment has to go over the Bitcoin network. Lightning, ERC-20 tokens, Monero and TRC-20 USDT are all unsupported.
- Manual renewal. Proton can’t pull Bitcoin from you, so each period is a fresh payment, sent at least a day before the due date. A 12-month plan means one transaction a year.
- One address, one payment. Use the QR code shown each time. A second payment to an old address won’t be matched to your account.
- Overpaying. Anything extra stays as credit, and Bitcoin-funded credit doesn’t expire. It only pays bills in the same currency.
- No middleman named, no ID. Proton’s Bitcoin page names no payment processor, asks for no identity documents and sets no minimum.
- Refunds. Proton’s terms refund a first purchase in full if you cancel within 30 days, once per user, back to the original method. Cash and bank transfers are excluded. How that applies to a BTC payment, Proton doesn’t say.

Cash goes in an envelope to Proton AG in Geneva, with your username inside. A bank transfer is credited once you send proof through Proton’s support form.
Apple’s price for Lumo Plus is $12.99 for one month and $119.99 for twelve. Apple uses your Apple Account balance ahead of your card, except for subscriptions that don’t allow it. App-store purchases are refunded under Apple’s or Google’s rules, not Proton’s.
Fine print
Gift cards. Proton’s own shop, shop.proton.me, has digital cards at $20, $50 and $100. Redeemed (Settings → Subscription → Gift code), the code turns into account credit, which can then go toward Lumo Plus or any other plan. Note that the shop has no crypto option at all, and that a card in dollars only settles plans charged in dollars. Proton has warned about counterfeit coupons; stick to the official shop.
Families. Buy the add-on on Duo, Family or Visionary and it can extend to the plan’s usual headcount: two people on Duo, six on the other two.
Who’s behind it. Lumo describes itself as owned by a Swiss nonprofit and run as a European service under GDPR.
If you’d rather pay with Monero or USDT
For Lumo, Proton’s BTC checkout is direct, so use it. If your coins are Monero or USDT, which Proton refuses, or you’d like a different assistant, we sell these for many coins, BTC included, with our fee in the price:
- Claude Pro or Max: comes with Claude Code. Which one to pick: Claude Pro or Max, paid in Bitcoin.
- ChatGPT Plus or Pro: image generation and Codex.
- Perplexity Pro: AI search across several top models.
What a Bitcoin payment shows on-chain, and what Monero hides, is covered in Monero or Bitcoin for a private purchase.
