Before you send DAI
- Ethereum (ERC-20) only. DAI on other chains won’t arrive.
- Send DAI itself, not USDS or sDAI. They are different tokens.
- Keep a little ETH in the wallet for gas.
Sending DAI on Ethereum (ERC-20), step by step
Self-custody wallet
- 01Besides the DAI, keep a small amount of ETH on Ethereum (ERC-20) to cover gas (a few cents in ETH most days).
- 02Select DAI on Ethereum (ERC-20) on your order page and leave that tab open.
- 03Open MetaMask, or whichever Dai wallet you use, hit Send and select DAI on Ethereum (ERC-20).
- 04This QR code holds the address only. Scan or paste it, then enter the amount by hand from the order page.
- 05Enter the amount to the final digit. On most coins those trailing digits belong to your order alone, so don’t round.
- 06Before sending, compare the first and last four characters of the address (42 characters, beginning 0x) and the amount, digit for digit.
- 07Approve the transfer.
- 08Leave the order page open. It refreshes itself when your transaction shows up, and marks it paid after about 5 to 10 minutes.
Exchange account
- 01Select DAI on Ethereum (ERC-20) on your order page and use the exchange option there. It switches to a QR code with the address only, plus copy buttons.
- 02In the exchange, go to Withdraw (some call it “Send”) and select DAI.
- 03Set the network to Ethereum, also shown as ERC20. Most lost payments start at this step.
- 04Paste the address. If the exchange offers a memo or tag field, leave it blank: this address works without one.
- 05Type the amount due plus the exchange’s withdrawal fee, or the fee comes out of your payment. The adder below does the sum. Where the form shows a “receive” figure, make that one equal the amount due.
- 06Approve it with 2FA or the email link. Exchanges sometimes hold a withdrawal for review, most often the first one to a new address.
Where payments go wrong
- Sending USDS or sDAI. The order wants DAI itself.
- Withdrawing DAI on any chain but Ethereum (ERC20).
- An empty ETH balance, so nothing pays the gas.
